Now, Mumbai Police have uncovered crucial evidence revealing the identity and nationality of the assailant. The attacker, Mohammad Shahzad, has been identified as a Bangladeshi national, and concrete documents have solidified his background and intentions during the attack.
Concrete Evidence Linking the Attacker to Bangladesh
The investigation into the brutal knife attack on Saif Ali Khan has taken a significant turn. Mumbai Police have discovered a critical piece of evidence: a Bangladeshi ID and driving license. These documents confirm the attacker’s true identity as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shahzad, a 30-year-old Bangladeshi national. According to the records, his father is Mohammad Ruhul Amin. These findings have confirmed that the assailant, who had been operating under a fake identity, is indeed a foreign national.
The Attack and Motive Behind It
The attack occurred on January 16, when the assailant broke into Saif Ali Khan's residence in Bandra with an apparent motive to commit theft. However, things took a violent turn when the actor confronted the intruder. During the struggle, Shahzad stabbed Saif Ali Khan multiple times, severely injuring him. The assailant later admitted to the police that he attacked the actor in self-defense, attempting to escape from the actor's grip.
Investigation and Arrest of the Attacker
Following the attack, the Mumbai Police launched an extensive investigation, interrogating over 50 individuals. Around 35 police teams were formed to track down the attacker, who was ultimately arrested on January 19 in the early hours from Thane. The attacker had entered India illegally and had been living in Mumbai under the false name of Vijay Das for the past six months. His true identity was only uncovered after police accessed the crucial documents linking him to his Bangladeshi origins.
