Shah Rukh Khan-owned famous bungalow Mannat in Bandra has come under civic and legal scrutiny. It’s being said that BMC and forest department officials visited the actor’s home on Friday, following a complaint that claimed the ongoing renovation was violating Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms. While the visit sparked buzz online, SRK’s manager said there’s no violation and all permissions are in place.
The inspection team included members from the BMC’s H-West ward, building proposal department, and the forest department. Officials checked the site and reportedly asked the staff for documents and approvals related to the construction.
BMC Inspects Shah Rukh Khan-Owned Mannat Amid CRZ Violation Allegation
Speaking to ETimes, a forest official confirmed, “A team did carry out a site inspection as we received a complaint about renovation permissions. A report will be prepared based on the findings and submitted soon.”
A BMC official also stated their role was limited and said, “Our officials were accompanying the team, based on a request by the forest department. We had no other role.”
According to reports, the Mannat staff assured the team they would submit all necessary permissions. However, Shah Rukh Khan’s manager told ETimes, “There are no complaints. All work is going on as per guidelines.”
Legal Claims About Mannat’s Past Structure
Just a day before the inspection, former IPS officer and lawyer YP Singh alleged that Mannat was originally a heritage structure called Villa Vienna. He claimed that in 2005, SRK and Gauri Khan received approval for 12 small flats (meant for mass housing under the now-defunct Urban Land Ceiling Act), but instead merged them into one large luxury home.
Singh said, “Without the help and connivance of the municipal officers, this would never have happened.” He also added that despite the Act being repealed, the old rules still apply, and the flats should be restored to their original approved format.
Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan and his family are currently living in another building nearby while the renovation continues at Mannat.
