‘She Looks Like Gopi Bahu’ Janhvi Kapoor Fails To Impress Netizens In Custom-Made Tarun Tahiliani Outfit At Cannes 2025

Janhvi Kapoor made her Cannes debut on May 20 at the 78th Cannes Film Festival (Cannes 2025). She walked the red carpet with her Homebound co-stars Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa. The film will premiere in the Un Certain Regard section. Filmmaker Karan Johar also joined the group.

Janhvi Kapoor Makes Her Cannes 2025 Debut

Janhvi wore a custom blush pink lehenga by Tarun Tahiliani. The outfit featured a delicate rose-coloured fabric with a metallic sheen, woven in Banaras, India. The skirt and corset had a hand-crushed texture and an uncut raw hem. A Tarun Tahiliani drape, styled like a modern ghoonghat, flowed over her shoulder. She completed the look with layered pearl jewellery from Chopard and a sleek low bun.

Her stylist, Rhea Kapoor, gave the ensemble a modern Indian princess feel. The soft pink colour, sculpted silhouette, and veil marked a clear change from Janhvi’s usual glam style. Janhvi told Vogue Arabia, “I’ve always been super fixated on being sort of hyper glamorous... So this was very new for me.”

Netizens Feel Her Outfit Was UNFIT For Cannes

The look divided the opinion of internet users online. Some fans loved the elegance. Others said it felt out of place for Cannes. A Reddit user shared her look and said, “Ye Cannes hai ya shaadi ka mandap??” 

Another wrote, “She looks like Gopi Bahu.” One comment said, “Only Rhea could have stopped the Jhanvi-fication,” noting the fully clothed style was rare for her.
