Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par has wrapped up its first week with a solid performance at the box office. After earning praise from both fans and critics, the sports drama has now collected over Rs 89 crore in India. This is Aamir’s big-screen return after Laal Singh Chaddha in 2022.

The next few days could be tough for Sitaare Zameen Par. Major new releases like Kannappa, F1 and Maa are now in theatres, and are expected to draw large crowds.
Will Maa And Kannappa Affect Its Strong Run?
Kannappa is especially strong in buzz. It sold over 27,000 tickets in Telugu states within 24 hours of bookings opening. It also earned $25K in North America pre-sales across 298 locations. Analysts predict a massive Rs 30 crore plus on the opening day in India.
With stars like Akshay Kumar, Prabhas, Mohanlal, and Kajal Aggarwal, it may easily outpace Aamir’s film if reviews stay positive. The wide release and big names could take away a large share of the box office.
Kajol’s Maa also hit cinemas today, focusing on a horror-drama audience. It’s releasing on 1,250–1,500 screens and is expected to open between Rs 4.5–6.5 crore. A “Buy 2 Get 1 Free” offer has helped boost early sales. With positive critic reviews and rising interest in horror films, it could gain momentum over the weekend.
Still, its limited screen count may restrict growth. But any shift in theatre space can affect Sitaare Zameen Par’s hold, especially in multiplexes.
Aamir’s film has an edge with no OTT release in sight. That keeps the cinema experience exclusive. Its emotional story and family-friendly vibe also work well in urban centres.
Now it’s a matter of how much audience interest it can hold with the new competition. So far, Sitaare Zameen Par has shown strong legs. Whether it keeps going strong or loses steam will be known in the coming days.
