Despite competition from multiple new films, Sitaare Zameen Par hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. Vishnu Manchu’s mythological drama Kannappa had a slow start with under Rs 10 crore on day one. Kajol’s horror film Maa did decent business with Rs 4.5 crore. Brad Pitt’s F1 also debuted at around Rs 5 crore.
Aamir Khan’s Film Holds Strong Against New Releases
Even with these titles competing for screens, Aamir’s sports drama continued to draw in audiences. The film’s strong content and word-of-mouth buzz seem to be working in its favour. The real challenge lies ahead in the coming days as more films enter theatres and the battle for screens intensifies.
While the opening day of these newer films didn’t impact SZP, the second week will be a true test of its staying power. With good buzz and a solid first week, the film still has a strong shot at ruling the box office.
Sitaare Zameen Par is a remake of the Spanish hit Campeones. It features Aamir Khan as a basketball coach who trains a team of young players with special needs. The film also stars Genelia D’Souza in a key role.
What sets this film apart is its fresh cast, including 10 newcomers (Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar). The emotional storyline and inspiring performances have connected with viewers.
Aamir’s decision to stay away from OTT for now and stick to a theatrical release has worked well so far. As it enters its second week, it would be interesting to see whether Sitaare Zameen Par sustains its momentum at the box office.
