The Great Indian Kapil Show Faces Legal Trouble

Firoz A. Nadiadwala, producer of the Hera Pheri franchise, sent a Rs 25 crore legal notice to Netflix and the makers of The Great Indian Kapil Show. The notice was over comedian Kiku Sharda impersonating the character Baburao Ganpatrao Apte without permission.

Nadiadwala stated that his family owns the copyright and trademark of Baburao. He demanded that the skit be removed from Netflix and all platforms, Rs 25 crore as compensation, and a public apology within 24 hours. The notice warned that legal action would follow if the demands were not met.

The lawsuit surfaced just before the season finale, and the show’s team has not yet responded. Many online users felt it was a publicity stunt to dramatically boost the TRPs of the finale episode. Meanwhile, the latest season of TGIKS has concluded.
