The Taj Story Box Office Collection Day 4: Paresh Rawal Starrer Crosses Rs 5 Cr Amid Underwhelming Run – Is It Doing Better Than Huma Qureshi’s Single Salma?

The Taj Story crossed Rs 6 crore in four days but saw a sharp drop on Monday. It is struggling at the box office, though still performing better than Huma Qureshi’s Single Salma.

The Taj Story is currently facing a tricky run at the domestic box office. The Paresh Rawal-led drama opened to a slow start and has not been able to build strong momentum despite a slight weekend boost. The film has now crossed the Rs 6 crore mark, but the numbers stay on the lower side.

The film began its journey with Rs 1 crore on Friday. Saturday brought a bit of relief, as collections rose to Rs 2 crore, and Sunday showed another lift with Rs 2.75 crore. However, the weekend growth, while present, was not enough to create solid traction. Monday saw a steep drop, with early estimates pointing to just Rs 1.15 crore. This brings the total to Rs 6.90 crore in four days. The sharp dip suggests the film is struggling to sustain audience interest once the weekend crowd faded. Today’s Tuesday ticket offer might offer a small push, but competition and word of mouth will play a key role moving forward.

Even with modest numbers, The Taj Story has still performed better than Huma Qureshi’s Single Salma, which is facing a much tougher box office battle. The drama has earned only Rs 0.13 crore in its first four days. With such low turnout and minimal awareness, the film is expected to exit theatres soon. At this pace, Single Salma may not survive beyond its first week, as audiences clearly haven’t shown up for the release.

Controversy Surrounding This Paresh Rawal Starrer

Before it arrived in cinemas, The Taj Story found itself in controversy due to two Public Interest Litigations (PILs) filed against it. The petitioners sought a ban and a review of its certification, claiming the film distorts historical facts about the Taj Mahal. Addressing the controversy, Paresh Rawal stressed that the film is rooted in research and is not intended to trigger communal tension.

Reacting to the PIL, he told NDTV, “That PIL wasn’t filed to stop the film. They just wanted the judiciary to watch it once. But the film already has a CBFC certificate. Even the judiciary understands all this; they’re not foolish. We never intended to create any Hindu-Muslim controversy. Would anyone invest so much money just to create communal trouble? You can cause a riot for far less!”

REVIEW: How Is The Taj Story?

The film attempts to explore the ‘real’ history behind the Taj Mahal, proposing through dramatised accounts that it was originally a palace belonging to King Jai Singh before being acquired by Emperor Shah Jahan. The narrative dives into legal battles, historical claims, and emotional arguments to support its stance.

While the first half manages to grab attention through courtroom drama and strong performances, the second half slows down. The film becomes repetitive, with prolonged arguments and lengthy court scenes that weaken its impact. The intention to question historical narratives is clear, but the pacing makes it difficult to stay fully engaged.

For now, The Taj Story faces a crucial weekday test. If collections continue to drop, its theatrical journey may end sooner than expected. A
