Fans of Suriya and Trisha Krishnan were eagerly waiting for the first-day-first-show celebration of Karuppu. But just hours before release, excitement turned into confusion after the film’s early morning shows were suddenly cancelled. The unexpected move has now triggered massive reactions online, with some fans expressing concern while others harshly criticised the makers.

The much-awaited film was scheduled to begin special 9 AM shows on May 14. However, producer SR Prabhu confirmed on social media that the shows would not happen. He wrote, “Due to unavoidable reasons, 9 AM shows will be cancelled for Karuppu. Our sincere apologies to everyone.”

Karuppu Makers Face Online Backlash

Soon after the announcement, social media platforms were flooded with reactions. While several fans asked the team to clarify the issue, others accused the makers of poor planning and publicity tactics.

Director RJ Balaji also addressed the situation through his X account. He wrote, “Dearest fans, I don’t have a concrete answer to the current situation. Producers are doing their best to solve the hurdles. This film has always had hurdles, and somehow God has made us sail through all that and here we are after 32 months. This time as well, I have faith, complete faith in him.”

Despite his assurance, criticism continued online. One user commented, “Small explanation will neutralise the negative thoughts of fans… It’s ok bro sometimes hard things happen.”

Another wrote, “U were making fun of Telugu movie! Now this is karma! Suffer.”

A third user posted, “What is the issue? No matter what is the problem is, it must be solve and settled before the release date of the movie. Your entire team the one announced release date right? Now why very last minute like this? This is not right at all!!”

One more added, “This is politics, making it seems like fans worry more than director producer or actors worry and it has worked many times with TN audience.”

A netizen tweeted, “Just part of publicity stunts. We know you brother.”

Cancellation Comes Despite CM Vijay’s Support

The cancellation became an even bigger talking point because it happened just days after Vijay reportedly granted special permission for Karuppu’s 9 AM shows.

The makers had earlier thanked the Chief Minister on X and wrote, “Special thanks to our honourable Chief Minister Thiru. Joseph Vijay for granting the special permission for the 9AM shows of #Karuppu. #Karuppu – FDFS begins at 9AM, from May 14th, A @SaiAbhyankkar Musical.”

According to reports, the film’s release issues is linked to financial hurdles. However, the team has not officially confirmed the exact reason behind the sudden cancellation.
