Music composer Ismail Darbar has opened up about his fallout with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and also hinted at what might have caused tension between Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai during the making of Devdas.
In an interview with Vickey Lalwani, Darbar said he would never work with Bhansali again, not even for Rs 100 crore. He revealed that their professional bond ended during the making of Bhansali’s Netflix series Heeramandi. Darbar had been composing for over a year before a misunderstanding forced him to step away from the project.
Darbar said his relationship with Bhansali was once very strong. They had worked together on films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas, which are still remembered for their music and direction. But, according to him, things changed when Bhansali decided to cast Shah Rukh Khan in Devdas.

Darbar believes that the decision may have upset Salman Khan. He said, “When I needed work, he gave me Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, and when he needed me, I gave up all the work I had for him. He was my godfather in the industry, after all… My heart tells me that his equation with Salman soured because he hired Shah Rukh for Devdas. Salman supported him even when Khamoshi flopped. Isn’t it obvious? If I help you out twice, and the third time, you go and hire my competitor, I would be upset?”
He also spoke about the attention Salman and Aishwarya’s relationship received during that time. Their romance and breakup became one of the biggest stories in Bollywood. Ismail Darbar added, “The news of their fights were all over the media. We used to feel bad; they were so close, they shouldn’t have been fighting. But these are all things of the past. Even Salman is smart enough to never speak about it.”
Aishwarya Rai Felt Betrayed
In another chat with the same host, ad filmmaker Prahlad Kakkar said he had personally seen some of their arguments. Kakkar, who lived in the same building as Aishwarya, said she was deeply hurt after many in the industry supported Salman after the breakup. Kakkar said, “Her greatest hurt was being abandoned by the industry for Salman. That was her greatest hurt. She really felt bad. That’s where her commitment to the industry actually cracked… She felt very, very betrayed by the industry.”
Talking about Salman and SRK, both of them are busy with their upcoming projects. Salman is shooting Battle of Galwan and also handling hosting duties for Bigg Boss 19. On the other hand, Shah Rukh Khan is busy with his next big actioner, King.
