Yash In Toxic: Rocking Star Yash turned 40 on January 8 and marked the day with a bold reveal. The makers of Toxic – A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups dropped a new character teaser introducing Yash as Raya. The video grabbed instant attention. It also triggered sharp reactions online.
Yash As Raya In Toxic: Fresh Glimpse Criticised Online
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the teaser runs for 2 minutes and 51 seconds. It opens in a graveyard during a funeral. The mood is tense. A crime boss believes no one will dare disrupt his son’s last rites. His men stand guard. Then chaos erupts. Gunfire breaks the silence. Explosions rip through the space. Out of the smoke walks Raya. He looks calm. He looks in control.
The entry of Yash in Toxic glimpse is loud and dramatic. The character speaks little, and his presence does the talking. The teaser ends with Raya declaring, “Daddy’s Home.” That single line has divided viewers.
The teaser also includes a nearly 30-second intimate scene set inside a car. This moment, placed in a character reveal, has become the centre of the online backlash. Many viewers questioned the need for it. Others felt it clashed with the dark tone set by the funeral sequence.
A Reddit user shared a still from the teaser and asked, “Toxic teaser Out BUT Was the depiction of the sex scene necessary in Teaser?” The post quickly drew strong reactions.
Read some user comments to the post below:
“They’ve included almost a full 30-second sex scene.”
“Yash could only last 30 seconds. Kya alpha banega re tu.”
“It’s like showcasing masculinity is incomplete without showing a woman being degraded in movies. Like why??”
“Too much style zero substance.”
“When films lack strong content and creativity, they often rely on sex, violence, and exaggerated mass dialogues to fuel hero worship. mass dialogues like “daddy’s home or if you are bad I’m your dad.”
“They are using shock factor to get the audience excited. Animal had that “Checking out girls when they bend, watching ….“ which got the people’s attention from the very first teaser. They are going the Animal/Vanga way.”
“The trailer tried too hard to give a Hollywood-y feel in the first few seconds, but fell flat. The Hollywood-Bollywood mix that they are trying to achieve is coming off weird if you ask me. And the “Daddy’s home” line, bhai unko laga hoga ke kya hi pull off kar diya hai humne, but felt cringe honestly.”
“Vanga ji khush to bahut honge.”
“Bus karo unnecessary fantasy ghusedna.”
Gulshan Devaiah Rejected THIS Yash Starrer
Meanwhile, actor Gulshan Devaiah revealed he had once been offered Toxic. Speaking to Screen Spotlight, he said, “They did offer me Toxic a long time ago. A lot of these offers used to come earlier as well. It’s just that I started with Kantara. Geethu Mohandas and I had a long chat. She really wanted me in her film, but it didn’t work out for a variety of reasons, mostly scheduling.”
He added that the scale of the project played a role. He said, “I already had things going on that I was finding hard to manage. If I had taken up another franchise-level project, it wouldn’t have worked out.”
Before Yash’s reveal, the makers had unveiled posters featuring Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth.
Toxic is set to release in theatres worldwide on March 19. It will clash with Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar Part 2.
