Why is ‘Who Built Hybe’ Trending on Twitter? BTS Army wants K-Media to Apologise

BTS ARMY: BTS Army trends ‘BTS Built Hybe’ on Twitter as a Korean broadcasting channel, MBC releases a teaser with a corrupted subtitle. On 20th April 2024, MBC’s TV program ‘Hangout with Yoo’ released a teaser for their upcoming episode with boy group SEVENTEEN’s sub-unit BSS. The teaser consisted of the show’s host Yoo Jae Suk and main cast members visiting HYBE’s Building, one of the captions in the video was, “The HYBE headquarters built up by Seventeen,” this caused an uproar among K-pop followers and BTS fans.

Army’s Concern about BTS’s Legacy

Nowadays, everyone knows who BTS is and what their presence means in the K-pop industry. They have set standards in the Global Music market. Every K-pop artist is trying to follow in their footsteps. In such a scenario, releasing a statement that indirectly questions the legacy of global stars caused commotion among the fans. BTS Army expressed their dissatisfaction with the caption used by MBC. They said, ‘I will not let you erase History.’ Fans trended ‘BTS Built Hybe’, ‘BTS Made Hybe’, ‘Apologise to BTS’ and ‘BTS Paved the Way’ on Twitter (now X).

When did BigHit Entertainment become HYBE?

Before becoming a multinational company, HYBE, it used to be Bighit Entertainment which was established in 2005 by Bang Si-hyuk. The company just had a few artists for a very long time, they had Lee Hyun and BTS. Later, after the success of the worldwide famous group BTS, Bighit debuted another boy group TXT aka Tomorrow by Together. In 2020, Bighit Ent acquired the stakes of Pledis Ent, which had SEVENTEEN and NU’EST. And in March 2021, they changed the company’s name to HYBE. That is why, K-media’s misleading caption angered fans.

BTS Army Asking for Apology

After receiving heavy backlash from the K-pop fans and BTS Army, MBC has now changed the captions from “SEVENTEEN built new Hybe building” to “New building fascinated the members.” But, BTS fans the Army still asking for an apology from the broadcasting channel.
