Year Ender 2024: This year in films is one to be talked about. It had everything to offer from mass cinema to thought provoking dramas. Blockbuster or not, these films got everyone googling their release dates and box office collections. So, summing all of them up into one comprehensive list, here are IMDB’s top 10 most popular films of 2024.

1. Kalki 2898 AD

Topping this Year Ender 2024 list is Kalki 2898 AD starring Prabhas. Written and directed by Nag Ashwin this film was highly anticipated, especially for the film’s CGI. Upon release the film broke multiple box office records and collected north of ₹1200 crore (approx.) in the global box office. As for the reception, the film received mixed to positive reviews for its storyline but was unanimously praised for its visual appeal. Kalki 2898 AD is rated 7.0 with over 60,000 user ratings.

2. Stree 2: Sarkate Ka Aatank

Next on the list is Bollywood’s top grossing film of the year, Stree 2. Directed by Amar Kaushik, this film is the sequel to 2018’s highly celebrated and critically acclaimed horror comedy Stree. The film was released in August of this year to positive reviews and box office success. Stree 2: Sarkate Ka Aatank ended its box office run with a collection north of ₹870 crores (approx.). The film also has an IMDB rating of 7.0 with 37,000 user ratings.

3. Maharaja

Taking the number three spot is this Tamil action thriller starring Vijay Sethupathi, Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas and Natarajan Subramaniam. Written and directed by Nithilan Saminathan the film received positive reviews upon release, as a result the film boasts an IMDB score of 8.5. Moreover, made on a budget of just ₹20 crore, the film exploded in the box office and ended its run with a total collection over ₹160 crore (approx.).

4. Shaitaan

Following the monstrous success of Maharaja is Ajay Devgn, R. Madhavan, Jyothika and Janki Bodiwala starrer Shaitaan. The film is a horror thriller directed by Vikas Bahl that generated a box office collection of over ₹210 crore (approx.) after receiving positive reviews from fans. Moreover, the film has an IMDB rating of 6.5 with 52,000 user ratings.  

5. Fighter

Taking the fifth spot in this Year Ender 2024 list is Fighter. Featuring a star studded cast featuring Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, and Anil Kapoor in the lead roles, Fighter is a film based on aerial combat action, similar to the Top Gun film franchise. The anticipation for this film was high upon announcement with discussion groups forming on the internet. All that press and a budget of ₹200 crore (approx.) helped the film generate ₹344 crore (approx.) at the box office. As for the reception, Fighter received mixed reviews and sits with an IMDB rating of 6.2.

6. Manjummel Boys

The sixth spot on the list goes to the Malayalam survival thriller, Manjummel Boys. Written and directed by Chidambaram, Manjummel Boys is a film based on the Guna Caves rescue of 2006. It stars Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, Balu Varghese, Ganapathi S. Poduval, Lal Jr., Deepak Parambol, Abhiram Radhakrishnan, Arun Kurian, Khalid Rahman and Shebin Benson. The film was mounted on a budget of ₹20 crores (approx.) and generated a box office total of ₹242 crores (approx.). 

7. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3

Next on the scale of popularity on IMDB is the Kartik Aryan starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. Starring Kartik Aaryan, Vidya Balan, Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri in key roles with Anees Bazmee serving as the director, this film opened in the box office to great business. However, the film was rated average by critics and did not bring much to the table in terms of material. As a result the film is rated 5.1 stars on IMDB with over 70,000 user ratings.

8. Kill

Filling the eighth spot is the action thriller Kill starring Lakshya, Raghav Juyal, Ashish Vidyarthi, Harsh Chhaya, Tanya Maniktala and Abhishek Chauhan. The film is directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat and inspired from real events experienced by him. Kill was released in theatres post its film festival run. It opened to positive reviews and managed to recover its budget and then some with a collection of ₹47 crore (approx.) on a ₹40 crore (approx.) budget. Kill has an IMDB rating of 7.6 with 34,000 user ratings.

9. Singham Again

Following the action thriller Kill is Ajay Devgn for a second time with Singham Again. Directed by Rohit Shetty as the next installment in his cop universe and mounted on a budget exceeding ₹350 crore (approx.), Singham Again was an average outing at the theatres. The film has an IMDB rating of 5.8 with 69,000 user ratings and only managed to do ₹389 crores (approx.) in box office numbers according to Bollywood Hungama.

10. Laapataa Ladies

Ending this Year Ender 2024 list is India’s submission to the Oscars, Laapataa Ladies. Directed by Kiran Rao, Laapataa Ladies is a comedy drama starring Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam and Ravi Kishan. Made at ₹5 crore (approx.) budget, this film earned a box office total of ₹25 crores (approx.). Moreover, the film boasts an IMDB rating of 8.4 with 46,000 user ratings.
