DNP India invites all global news boards, news corporation’s bodies, WAN (World Advertising Network) to partner with DNP India for affiliating it with them to become partner and to stay informed of all online/ digital decisions happening globally. This shall help strengthen the backbone of journalism and its freedom.

Indian press council is India’s premier council for listening any issues related to press freedom, fake news or any issues.  The Press Council of India was first set up in the year 1966 by the Parliament on the recommendations of the First Press Commission with the object of preserving the freedom of the press and of maintaining and improving the standards of press in India. The present Council functions under the Press Council Act, 1978. It is a statutory, quasi-judicial authority functioning as a watchdog of the press, for the press and by the press. It adjudicates the complaints against and by the press for violation of ethics and for violation of the freedom of the press respectively.

The Press Council is headed by a Chairman, who has by convention, been a retired judge of the Supreme Court of India. The Council consists of 28 other members of whom 20 represent the press and are nominated by the press organisations/news agencies recognised and notified by the Council as all India bodies of categories such as editors, working journalists and owners and managers of newspaper and news agencies, five members are nominated from the two Houses of Parliament and three represent cultural, literary and legal fields as nominees of the Sahitya Academy, University Grants Commission and the Bar Council of India. The members serve on the Council for a term of three years. A retiring member shall be eligible for re-nomination for not more than one term.

The Council is funded by the revenue collected by it as fee levied on the registered newspapers in the country on the basis of their circulation. No fee is levied on newspapers with circulation less than 5000 copies. The deficit is made good by way of grant by the Central Government.

Complaint Procedure

  1. Complaint Procedure for filing the complaint against the Press

It is open to any person to lodge a complaint with the Press Council against a newspaper for a breach of the recognized ethical canons of journalistic propriety and taste. The complainant need not necessarily be the person aggrieved or directly involved. The alleged breach may be in the publication or non-publication of a news-item or statement, or other material, like cartoons, pictures, photographs, strips or advertisements which are published in a newspaper. Cases can also be initiated by any member of the public against any professional misconduct by an editor, working journalist, staff of a newspaper or engaged in freelance work. There can also be a complaint against any matter transmitted by a news agency by any means whatsoever. By virtue of the Press Council (Procedure for Inquiry) Regulations, 1979, complaint shall be lodged with the Council within the following periods:

  1. Dailies, News agencies and weeklies —–within two months
  2. In other cases—-within four months.

Provided that a relevant publication of an earlier date may be referred to in the complaint.

In case someone who wish to exit has to surrender the DNP India city news set-up completely and DNP India willfully returns the caution money invested by the investor with a condition.

  • No exit for 3 years
  • Caution money deposited will be refunded when the set-up is taken over by any other city based investor
  • If say, for next 6 months no investor turns up a grace period of 3 months will come into effect. However, after 9 months DNP India parent shall start processing the caution money refund as a whole or in installments whatever deems fit.

Keeping in view that news business is entirely dependent on perception and no asset value can be monetized. DNP India assures the old investors of the safety of their caution money in the condition that entire set-up is shifted in as and where basis to the new aspirant, who replaces the first one.
