3.23 lakh fresh cases take total tally to 1.76 crore

India continued to report more than 3 lakh Covid cases for the sixth day in a row. The country logged a total of 3,23,144 Covid cases and 2,771 deaths in the last 24 hours, a slight decline from the Monday figure, according to the health ministry’s data released on Tuesday. Since April 15, India has continued to report over 2 lakh new Covid-19 cases on a daily basis.

The fresh Covid figure takes the country’s total caseload to over 1.76 crore. Monday’s deaths have taken the total fatalities to 1,97,894.

Maharashtra reported 48,700 cases of Covid even as capital city recorded a drop. Several other cities in the state continue to have a high caseload despite restrictions. Delhi recorded the highest single-day rise on Monday in its COVID-19 death count with 380 more people dying due to the infection. The capital recorded 20,201 cases in the last 24 hours. 

The top five states which have contributed to India’s total daily tally include Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Delhi. After Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Delhi have the most infections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and United States President Joe Biden had a telephonic conversation on Monday, a day after US said it would send raw material needed to manufacture extra stocks of Covishield vaccine. The European Union, Germany, France, and several other nations, too, have assured India of help to fight its worst public health crisis.
The total cases till now are 1,76,36,307 and recoveries are 1,45,56,209 while death toll has gone up to 1,97,894.
