Fatty Liver: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) affects millions worldwide, often undiagnosed due to obesity, poor diet or insulin resistance. Thankfully, simple dietary change could help in reversing NAFLD. Medical experts across the world recommend black coffee, leafy green vegetables and broccoli because of their anti-inflammatory, fat-reducing and detoxifying powers.
Understanding Fatty Liver
The human liver processes nutrients, regulates metabolism and filters toxins. However, excess fat could impair these functions, risking cirrhosis and inflammation.
1. Black Coffee: Your Daily Liver Ally
More than just another morning boost, black coffee is rich in caffeine and chlorogenic acids that could help fight liver fat. Studies have demonstrated that the moderate intake of black coffee (2-3 cups a day) could significantly reduce liver enzymes, slow down the process of fibrosis and cut down the risk of NAFLD by as much as 80 percent. Antioxidants such as polyphenols could enhance fat breakdown and reduce inflammation, mimicking exercise effects on the liver.
DON'T MISS
Ideally, you should brew strong black filter coffee, 2 cups pre-meal. A dash of cinnamon could be added for extra anti-inflammatory punch. You should avoid black coffee after 4pm to protect sleep.
2. Leafy Green Vegetables
Leafy greens such as kale, methi (fenugreek leaves), mustard greens and spinach could be great choices to treat fatty liver. They help in neutralizing toxins and slashing fat deposits via polyphenols and nitrates while binding heavy metals. Moreover, these low-calorie vegetables could help in fighting oxidative stress while reducing inflammation and promoting weight loss at the same time.
You could try Methi thepla or palak paneer, stir-fried greens with garlic or Kale-spinach smoothie with lemon.
3. Broccoli
Rich in sulforaphane, Broccoli helps in the activation of liver detox enzymes to speed up the process of fat metabolism. The high fibre and antioxidants content in broccoli could reduce insulin resistance, limit fibrosis progression and protect cells. You could steam broccoli for 5 minutes to retain sulforaphane, blend it into salads or soups or stir-fry with mustard greens.
