Aligarh Viral Video: A 23-year-old man from Aligarh started developing severe rabies-like symptoms after he was bitten by a stray dog. The man was referred to AIIMS Delhi after his condition was declared critical.

Aligarh Viral Video: Utwara village

The stray dog bite case is from Utwara village in Khair tehsil of Aligarh district. The man has been identified as Ramkumar, son of Vijaypal. Ramkumar was walking in the village on December 20 at around 6:3 pm when a stray dog bit him on the leg. The man returned home and informed his family.

The wound was washed by the family members and chilli powder at the bite was applied as per local custom. There were only small teeth marks with only minor injuries and no deep wound. The man stayed at home and appeared to be normal for many hours.

Around 11 pm, Ramkumar complained of restlessness and discomfort. His condition started deterioriating and he started scratching his body repeatedly and started making dog-like sounds.

Panic In The Village

Ramkuamr started sniffing people, sticking out his tongue and attempting to bite anyone who came close. This frightened villagers who then ran away to protect themselves.

The family tried exorcism ritual as the condition of Ramkumar worsened overnight. His behaviour became uncontrollable by morning and he was tied to a cot. Villagers, family members and others took him to Khair Community Health Centre (CHC).

CHC Superintendent Dr Rohit Bhati referred him to a higher medical centre in Delhi before he was admitted to AIIMS Delhi for treatment.

Uttar Pradesh had the highest number of stray dogs in India according to 2019 data from the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.

From Monday to Wednesday, more than 45 people have been bitten by stray dogs in Aligarh. There are long, endless queues at government health centers for anti-rabies injections.

According to experts, dogs undergo the breeding season during winters. This is the primary reason why they become violent.
