Amroha News: A teenage girl from the state of Uttar Pradesh (UP) lost her life at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.

Ahana, the 11th class student, is believed to be suffering from multiple illnesses that led to her death.

On December 19, Ahana was admitted to AIIMS for typhoid and was brought under the care of doctors led by Dr. Sunil Chumber. The infection had become so severe that it started perforation in her intestines. In such medical cases, surgery cannot be performed unless the typhoid infection is brought under control.

What Does The Girl’s Family Say?

Ahana’s relative, Sajid Khan, said she had been accustomed to consuming a lot of junk and processed food since childhood. Khan added that he believes Ahana’s intestines became rigid due to eating fast and junk food.

Family members said Ahana used to avoid home-cooked meals and preferred fast food such as chowmein, pizza and burgers since childhood.

Ahana is survived by her father Mansoor Ali Khan who is a farmer. The family included his wife Sara Khan, elder daughter Maria (23), son Awan and Ahana.

Family members said Ahana complained of severe stomach pain on November 28 and was taken to a hospital in Amroha. She was later referred to Moradabad where intestinal damage and fluid accumulation were found. Seven liters of fluid were removed from her stomach by Dr. Riaz and his team. After a slight improvement, she was taken for further treatment by her uncle Sajid Khan. She was admitted to AIIMS Delhi and died due to heart failure.

Can Eating Fast Food Cause Death?

There is no truth in the fact that one can die directly from eating fast food, according to Dr. Piyush Ranjan, Vice Chairman of the Institute of Liver, Gastroenterology, and Pancreatico-Biliary Sciences at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi.

Dr. Ranjan explained that the consumption of fast food is not directly associated with the rupture of the intestines. He said the primary cause of intestinal rupture is an obstruction in the intestines. Medically, digestion can be slowed down due to excessive consumption of fast food. This, in turn, may significantly increase the risk of intestinal blockage.

Fast Food A Global Health Risk

Unhealthy diets, including fast food consumption, contribute to about 11 million deaths worldwide every year, as per the Global Burden of Disease Report.

Fast food has been linked to heart disease, cancer, digestive disorders and long-term damage to gut health, according to medical studies published in journals such as JAMA Network and the National Library of Medicine.

Tuberculosis (TB) and Floating Stools

Tuberculosis can result in floating stools via malabsorption or gastrointestinal involvement. Floating stools usually result from excess gas or fat malabsorption (steatorrhea). Abdominal or gastrointestinal TB, the form of TB affecting the intestines, can impair nutrient and fat absorption that can result in fatty, buoyant stools.

It is important to note that enzyme production and villi function can be reduced by TB inflammation in the small intestine. This can cause undigested fats to make stools float and appear greasy or pale.
