At 25,833, Maharashtra reports its highest single day cases of the year

In a major setback on covid-19 front, Maharashtra has recorded 25,833 fresh cases in the last 24-hour, while in the same period 58 people have lost their lives.

Yesterday, the Union Health Ministry informed that more than 60 per cent of the daily toll has been reported from Maharashtra, while the state accounted for over 45 per cent deaths.

Meanwhile, India on Thursday reported 35,871 new covid-19 cases, the highest single day rise since December last year, taking the overall tally to 1,14,74,605.

A single day spike of 36,011 new infections were recorded on December 6. The country has been witnessing surge in daily covid cases. The spike in daily cases have been reported for eighth consecutive days, raising fears over the second wave of the novel virus.

With 172 more people dying in the last 24 hours, the fatality toll has reached 1,59,216 in India. The active caseload in country has mounted to 2,52,364, rising by over 17,958 cases from previous day.

So far, 3,71,43,255 doses of corona vaccine have been administered in the country since the drive began on January 16 after DCGI approval to ‘Covishield’ and ‘Covaxin’.

More than 14 lakh doses were administered on a single day on Wednesday, as per the data released by the health ministry.
