Everyone dreams of flawless, radiant skin, especially the so-called Korean glass skin that seems almost magical. If you’ve been scrolling through Instagram or watching beauty tutorials, you might have wondered whether it’s actually possible for Indian skin to achieve that perfect, translucent glow. Well, Gurugram-based dermatologist Dr Gurveen Waraich recently shared an eye-opening take that might change the way you think about skincare.
In one of her Instagram videos, Dr Waraich addressed the hype around Korean glass skin. She said, “You want Korean glass skin? Let me give you the easiest hack. No skin routine, no treatments. Pray for Korean parents for your next life. Because as an Indian, you cannot achieve Korean glass skin.” Curious? She explained why, highlighting two major reasons!
Why Indians Can’t Get Korean Glass Skin?
According to Dr Waraich, Indian skin has structural differences compared to Korean skin. She said, “Our oil and sebaceous activity is way higher than Koreans. This means larger pores, which makes it impossible to achieve the same translucency.” On top of that, higher melanin content naturally makes Indians more prone to tanning, uneven skin tone and pigmentation.
Another key difference lies in the dermis (the second layer of skin), which is thicker in Indians than in Koreans. Dr Waraich says. “It’s actually a good thing. That’s why we age slower and wrinkles appear later. But it also gives us texture and pigmentation issues that Korean skin doesn’t face.”
Indian skin also has to deal with extreme climate conditions. High UV exposure and pollution levels create a survival challenge that Korean skin doesn’t experience in the same way. She added, “With these factors, achieving Korean glass skin is just not possible.”
What Indian Skin Can Aim For
So, what’s the realistic goal? Dr Waraich suggests focusing on an “Indian golden glow.” Her advice is to use sunscreen daily, exfoliate with an AHA or BHA chemical exfoliator two to three times a week and consult a dermatologist to find the right retinoid for your skin type.
Her message is that instead of chasing an unattainable beauty standard, embrace your skin’s natural strength and aim for a healthy, radiant glow that’s uniquely yours. After all, Indian skin has its own advantages (like slower ageing and resilience) which are worth celebrating.
