Eggs have suddenly become the centre of a social media storm. A recent viral egg test claimed that some popular eggs might contain banned antibiotics. This has left consumers worried, with health influencers and even some doctors weighing in. But is the panic really justified?

What Happened In The Viral Egg Test?

Trustified, a testing platform, released a laboratory report claiming that a sample of Eggoz eggs contained trace amounts of AOZ, a metabolite of the banned antibiotic Nitrofuran. The blind egg test measured levels around 0.73 to 0.74 micrograms per kilogram. Nitrofurans are banned internationally due to potential health risks, which is why the findings immediately caught public attention.

As news spread, many people panicked. Social media buzzed with debates, and questions about food safety dominated conversations in kitchens across the country. Consumers started questioning whether eggs, a common and affordable protein source, were actually dangerous.

Egg Test Findings Explained By Doctor

Doctor Shubham Vatsya addressed the viral egg test in a recent Instagram video. He clarified that while the test detected traces of antibiotics in some batches, the actual risk to human health is extremely low.

He said, “One of the most asked questions right now is not about the knife or the gas stove. Food influencers are suddenly saying that the most dangerous item in your home and kitchen is the egg. It is an interesting observation, but it is scientifically inaccurate.”

According to Doctor Vatsya, the detected levels were 25 million times lower than the minimum exposure limit set by food safety authorities. Even using the European standard with a safety margin of ten thousand times, a person would need to eat 175 eggs every single day to reach a toxic dose.

The doctor emphasised that fear-mongering over such small traces is unnecessary, especially in a country like India, where eggs provide a vital source of nutrition for many.

Eggs remain one of the most complete and affordable sources of protein. They are packed with nutrients like choline, which supports brain and liver health, and lutein, which is good for the eyes. They also contain high-quality amino acids, making them a crucial part of a balanced diet.

Doctor Vatsya’s key message is that eggs are not the dangerous kitchen item they are being made out to be. The viral egg test created unnecessary panic, but science shows that moderate consumption is safe and beneficial.
