LDL Cholesterol Killing You Silently? Top Doc Reveals Soluble Fibre’s Life-Saving Secret

LDL Cholesterol: LDL cholesterol becomes harmful when it gets circulated in excess. This happens when LDL starts getting deposited along the arterial walls instead of being transported and utilized by the body

LDL Cholesterol: For decades, cholesterol in the human body has been one of the most misunderstood aspects of overall health. Many individuals associate it solely with fatty foods and believe somehow that avoiding fried or oily foods is enough to stay safe. However, the truth is far more complex than perceived. This is because Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) often referred to as “bad cholesterol”, can increase the risk of stroke, heart disease and other life-threatening conditions.

Understanding the Real Threat of LDL Cholesterol

LDL cholesterol becomes harmful when it gets circulated in excess. This happens when LDL starts getting deposited along the arterial walls instead of being transported and utilized by the body. Over time, these deposits form plaque to cause a health condition known as atherosclerosis. This process reduces the flow of blood in the body and may even result in blockages.

Soluble Fibre: The Unsung Hero of Heart Health

Unlike insoluble fibre that primarily aids digestion, soluble fibre dissolves in water forming a gel-like substance in the gut. This helps it bind actively with cholesterol particles and bile acids in the digestive system, removing them from the body well before they enter the bloodstream.

To get started, you need to focus on diets that are rich in soluble fibre. Start with oats, legumes (such as chickpeas and lentils), barley, citrus fruits, flaxseeds, apples and Psyllium husk.

Ideally, you should aim for at least 25-30 grams of fibre every day, with a majority portion coming from soluble fibre. For instance, you can start your day with a bowl of oatmeal instead of refined cereal. For lunch, you may try out a serving of lentils and snack on fruits instead of processed foods.
