New restrictions in Delhi due Covid fear, but buses, metro to run with full capacity

Concerns have increased due to the spurt in the cases of Covid-19 and its new variant Omicron in the national capital Delhi. Amidst the fear of Covid, new restrictions are being implemented in Delhi.

However, public transport buses and metro will run at full capacity. The government has told people that there is no need to panic as buses and metro will run with 100 per cent capacity, but COVID safety norms – such as social distancing and wearing of masks – will have to be strictly followed.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said in a press conference on Tuesday that there will now be a weekend curfew in Delhi on Saturday and Sunday. There is an appeal to people to come out only when there is a great need or when there is an emergency.

He said that except for essential services in all government offices, all will work from home. Private offices will work with 50 percent capacity.

In Delhi on Monday, about 4000 cases of corona virus have been reported in the last 24 hours and the positivity is around 6.5 percent. Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain had given this information. He said that in all the cases that are coming, there is very little need for the hospital. There is no need to panic, but be careful.

According to the Graded Response Action Plan of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), a positivity rate of more than 5 percent for two consecutive days is one of the criteria for declaring a red alert. Red alert means total curfew and most economic activities will have to be stopped.
