U-Win: India takes a giant leap ! Govt. digitalises vaccination for children & pregnant women | Details here

U-Win: Imagine a world where the hassle of keeping track of vaccination appointments, carrying physical certificates, and other similar problems are a thing of the past. With the implementation of an electronic register for regular vaccinations and the replication of the Co-WIN platform by the government, this future has now become a reality.

On January 11th, India took a significant step towards digitizing its Universal Immunization Program (UIP) with the launch of the “digital backbone” similar to the country’s COVID-19 vaccination program, known as U-WIN, in 65 districts across the nation. This pilot program aims to streamline the process of registering and vaccinating pregnant women, recording new births, administering birth doses and tracking subsequent vaccinations.

Vaccination all set to go completely digital

Beneficiaries of the program will now have the convenience of scheduling their vaccination appointments in advance and the platform also allows for mobility, as per official sources. This marks a pivotal moment in the country’s efforts to make vaccination more efficient and accessible for all.

An official reported, “Once the whole immunisation programme is digitised, beneficiaries will get certificates on the spot and they can also download them if they want to. These certificates will be stored in digi-locker.”

U-WIN is a new platform that will make it easy to get information about vaccinations, updates on vaccination status, information about deliveries, plans for vaccination sessions, and coverage reports. It’s a one-stop-shop for all your vaccination needs.” The official further stated, “There will be digital registrations of all pregnant women and newborns for individualised tracking for vaccination, reminders for upcoming doses and follow-up of dropouts. Healthcare workers and programme managers will be able to generate real-time data of routine immunisation sessions and vaccination coverage for better planning and vaccine distribution.”

Major benefit of U-WIN

With the U-WIN platform, all states and districts can easily keep track of who has been vaccinated and schedule appointments. A special card linked to the Ayushman Bharat Health Account will also be given to children and pregnant women to show they have been vaccinated.

Through the platform, citizens can easily book appointments and find nearby vaccination sessions. The platform is currently being tested in 65 districts, and healthcare professionals have been trained on how to use it. The goal is for all states and territories to be able to use it effectively.
