UP may release new guidelines amid covid surge in few states

New Delhi: Just when India was witnessing development on covid front, an increased rate of infection is being reported in several state, sending high alert across the county. Uttar Pradesh, which has significantly managed to curb the infection rate considering its population, has now asked officials to take precautionary measures.

The few states which have shown significant growth in number of cases are — Maharashtra, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Haryana and Kerala.  According to reports, the state will soon issue guidelines for visitors to Uttar Pradesh from these states. An advisory for mandatory testing and quarantine for passengers coming from red zones will soon issues, sources were cited as saying. 

Dr. D.S. Negi, director general, health, said, “Though Covid cases have declined in Uttar Pradesh, situation in all districts is being monitored, particularly those bordering other states. The state government is carrying out over 1.25 lakh sample tests daily along with contact tracing and surveillance work in all districts.”

According to reports, the chief minister has directed authorities to closely monitor the daily infection rate. The guidelines will hold special significance  amid the upcoming festivals including Shivratri and Holi. 

“People are being asked to maintain social distancing, wear masks and wash their hands regularly. There is to be no laxity in following safety protocols,” IANS quoted an official as saying.
