Indian Railways is preparing for a major expansion of its Vande Bharat sleeper train network, with around 260 trainsets planned as part of efforts to modernise long-distance rail travel and provide faster, more comfortable overnight journeys.

Vande Bharat Trains: 160 kmph Speed and Faster Journeys
The Vande Bharat sleeper trains are designed to operate at speeds of up to 160 kmph, potentially reducing travel time on several long-distance routes. The trains are being developed with modern technology aimed at delivering smoother and more efficient journeys.
Aircraft-Style Toilets and Premium Interiors
Among the features attracting attention are modern, aircraft-style toilet designs, along with upgraded passenger facilities. The sleeper coaches are expected to offer improved berths, contemporary interiors and enhanced onboard amenities compared with conventional overnight trains.
The trains are also being designed with passenger comfort and safety in mind, including modern braking systems, improved lighting and other upgraded systems.
Multiple Manufacturers Involved
The proposed 260 Vande Bharat sleeper trainsets are expected to be developed through multiple manufacturing partners, including BEML, Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Kinet Railway Solutions and the Titagarh-BHEL joint venture.
The involvement of multiple manufacturers is expected to support the large-scale production required for expanding sleeper services across the country.
