3.8 magnitude earthquake hits Haryana, tremors felt in Delhi too

Earthquake hits Haryana: An earthquake of magnitude 3.8 struck Haryana’s Jhajjar at 1:19 am on Sunday, first day of the year 2023. Tremors were felt in Delhi and surrounding areas too, the National Center for Seismology said.

There were no reports of any injuries or damage.

Earthquake of Magnitude 3.8: NCS

“An earthquake of Magnitude 3.8 jolted the national capital and surrounding areas at around 1.19 am. The epicentre of the earthquake was in Haryana’s Jhajjar and its depth was 5 km below the ground,”  National Center for Seismology said in a statement. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) is the nodal agency of the Government of India for monitoring of earthquake activity in the country.

Earlier in November, strong tremors were felt across Delhi and surrounding areas after a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck Uttarakhand along the Nepal border.

Netizens became active on Twitter with Delhiites tweeting about the earthquake as they welcomed 2023. A Twitter user wrote, “Did I just feel the tremors of an earthquake in Delhi? #earthquake” (sic)
