On Thursday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas. The state government has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the families of those killed in the disaster. At the same time, people whose houses have been destroyed in the disaster will be given a compensation of Rs 1.90 lakh. Along with the farmers, those who lost their cattle in floods and landslides would also be helped.
To help the local population in Almora and Nainital, a contingent of the Indian Army left in the help of the civil authority. Due to the incessant rains for the last two days, the civil administration has called the army as the situation near Garampani/Khairna areas is critical. Due to the excessive flow of the river, the valley has been badly affected and there is a danger to the surrounding buildings. Military assistance was sought to rescue stranded civilians, provide medical aid to the injured and restore food supplies.
A food distribution center was also set up at Khairna to prepare food for all the stranded people. The swift and prompt response displayed by the Indian Army has played a vital role in saving the lives of many tourists and local.
