Protesters breached barricades placed by the security forces as they attempted to advance towards the protest site.

An ongoing protest against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar intensified in New Delhi on Sunday as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers and student groups broke through police barricades and attempted to move towards Jantar Mantar.

The protest was held amid demands for the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar. AAP workers and members of the party’s student wing, the Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP), participated in the demonstration near India Gate.

The situation became tense when police personnel attempted to stop protesters from proceeding towards Jantar Mantar. Protesters breached barricades placed by the security forces as they attempted to advance towards the protest site.

AAP workers were also seen blocking buses carrying people who had been detained during the demonstrations. Security personnel were deployed around the buses as protesters tried to prevent them from leaving the area.

Delhi Police and the Rapid Action Force (RAF) were deployed in large numbers to manage the situation and prevent protesters from moving further towards the designated protest area. Visuals from the protest showed clashes around the barricades as security personnel attempted to control the gathering.

The latest demonstration is part of a series of protests against Gyanesh Kumar in Delhi. Student organisations and political groups have been demanding his resignation over alleged irregularities related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Protests over the issue have continued for several days, with authorities imposing restrictions around central Delhi and deploying additional security personnel near Jantar Mantar. Several protesters were detained during earlier demonstrations after attempting to cross police barricades and reach the protest site.

The demonstrations have brought renewed attention to the ongoing political dispute surrounding the electoral-roll revision exercise. Protesters have raised concerns about the process and demanded greater accountability from the Election Commission.

Police, meanwhile, have maintained restrictions around the protest area and have taken steps to prevent unauthorised gatherings and movement towards Jantar Mantar. The continuing demonstrations have resulted in heightened security and disruption to movement in parts of central Delhi.
