After Jamia Milia Islamia and JNU, DU students to hold screening of BBC documentary on PM ModiĀ 

BBC documentary on PM Modi: Amid the enraging controversy revolving around Prime Minister Narendra Modiā€™s BBC documentary, students from two top universities in the national capital — Delhi University and Ambedkar University — have announced its screening in campus. Previously, the Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University had organised a screening of the film which turned into a dramatic event after power was cut in the campus. Meanwhile, a ruckus was caused at Jamia Milia Islamia for the same which ended up being cancelled with 13 students detained. On similar lines, Hyderabad varsity also organised a screening of the series at the university campus.Ā 

The National Students Union of India (NSUI), Congress’s student wing, the Bhim Army Student Federation, and several other student organisations are scheduled to organise the screening of India.

No permission sought to hold screening

No permission was sought to hold the screening, said DU students, adding that they have taken preemptive measures to stop the ruckus over the event. 

“We have written to Delhi Police regarding this. They will take action. Proper police deployment would be done. We cannot allow such a screening,” DU proctor Rajni Abbi told news agency PTI.

Ruckus at Jamia Milia Islamia

A day after vice chancellor Najma Akhtar claimed that the university “totally blocked” a plot by certain students to organise a screening, Jamia Millia Islamia has suspended classes on Friday at the request of students and teachers. 13 university students were jailed on Wednesday for making a scene while planning a screening on campus. The university administration, according to Delhi Police, did not permit the screening.

The screening of the documentary was ultimately cancelled while 13 students were detained by the cops. 

The university administration, in a statement, said the students were not permitted to hold the screening of the documentary blocked by the Central government. 

“Jamia is taking all possible measures to prevent people/organisation with vested interest from destroying the peaceful academic atmosphere of the university.Ā
