Amit Shah: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has stated that India is determined to eliminate Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) within the next two years. Shah emphasized the need for continuous monitoring of areas where the influence of LWE groups has been eradicated to prevent their resurgence.

During a review meeting on LWE, Shah expressed confidence in the significant progress made against LWE in 2022 and 2023, and he called for a decisive effort to eliminate it completely within the next two years.
Shah also urged security agencies to ensure that Naxalite extremists do not relocate to new territories. The meeting was attended by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, chiefs of central armed police forces (CAPFs), central intelligence and investigation agencies, as well as representatives and chiefs from states affected by Naxal violence.
Shah highlighted that security vacuums in states affected by Naxalism have been diminishing since 2019. Security forces have established 195 new camps within the core areas of Naxals, with plans to establish 44 more.
The deployment of CAPFs against LWE, the rationalization of development initiatives, and the establishment of camps in security vacuums are top priorities for the Narendra Modi government, according to Shah.
He stressed the importance of ongoing surveillance in areas where LWE influence has been eradicated to prevent the problem from resurfacing. Additionally, it is crucial to monitor that LWE members from areas where the problem has been eliminated do not seek refuge in other states.
Shah highlighted the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards LWE since 2014, which has led to a significant reduction in violent incidents and deaths in 2022, the lowest in the past four decades. There has been a more than 52% decline in LWE-related violence, with decreases of 69% in deaths, 72% in security personnel deaths, and 68% in civilian deaths between 2014 and 2023 compared to the period from 2005 to 2014.
