“Ask Kharge Jii,” Did Rahul Reveal the Name of New Congress President Prior to the Result Announcement?

Congress President Election: About 30 minutes prior to the official announcement of Mr. Kharge’s victory in the party election, Rahul Gandhi today referred to veteran politician Mallikarjun Kharge as the new Congress president.
In response to a query in Kulnoor, Andhra Pradesh, he stated, “The future president will decide what my job will be. Ask Kharge ji and Sonia ji,” referring to Mallikarjun Kharge and acting president Sonia Gandhi.

When the counting began at 1.30 pm, Rahul Gandhi was speaking to media. He had led the party’s “Bharat Jodo Yatra” into Andhra Pradesh. Results weren’t announced until after 2:00 PM.

Mallikarjun Kharge

Mallikarjun Kharge, 80, was widely seen as the front-runner against Shashi Tharoor, 66, even before the ballots were cast on October 17 to elect the Congress’ first non-Gandhi leader in more over two decades. This was because he was the Gandhis’ pick.

“The President will decide what my function is and how I will be deployed,” Rahul

When asked at least twice about what the new president will do while he remains the face of the party, Rahul Gandhi responded, “I can’t comment on the role of the Congress president; that’s for Mr. Kharge to comment on.” “As far as my duty is concerned, I am pretty clear. Ask Kharge ji and Sonia ji about it; the president will decide what my function is and how I will be deployed,” he further said.

The Congress president is the ultimate authority in the Congress party, he continued. And a new Congress president will be in office. And that man will choose exactly how the celebration proceeds.

Shashi Tharoor, a losing candidate who later congratulated Mr. Kharge, had written to the head of the party’s election commission, Madhusudan Mistry, complaining that UP had irregularities and that the field was not even.
Later, Mr. Tharoor clarified that the issue was internal, adding that he would like to “move on” and that it was “unfortunate that a strictly internal letter” was exposed.
