Bengal Minister Jyotipriya Mallick Arrested by ED in ‘Ration Scam;’ Alleges’ Grave Conspiracy

Jyotipriya Mallick, a leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and West Bengal Minister, was detained by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday in relation to a suspected case of corruption in the public distribution system, according to ANI. After conducting a raid at his home in Kolkata’s Salt Lake neighbourhood, the agency took him into custody.

Jyotipriya Mallick Claims Conspiracy in ED Arrest

Speaking to the media, the minister claimed to be the “victim of a grave conspiracy.” The Enforcement Directorate (ED) stated, “West Bengal minister Jyotipriya Mallick has been arrested by ED in connection with an alleged case of corruption in rationing distribution.” This occurs while the ED is reportedly searching in relation to a case of ration distribution programme corruption. The Minister of Forest Affairs, Jyotipriya Mallick, was formerly in charge of the department of food and civil supplies. The development coincides with a continuing dispute between the ruling BJP and the opposition regarding the agency’s efforts against Govind Singh Dotasra, the head of the Rajasthan Congress.

Sachin Pilot Accuses BJP of Misusing Central Agencies for Political Intimidation

In response to this move against Dotasra, Congress leader Sachin Pilot charged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was “unleashing” central agencies in Rajasthan in order to “terrorise” the Congress party in advance of the assembly elections on November 25. Pilot said, “The way central agencies have been unleashed in Rajasthan to terrorise Congress and its leaders is being watched by the people of the state. BJP knows they are losing the assembly elections and that’s why they are conducting raids without any substantial basis.”

ED’s Actions in Teacher Recruitment Scam

At connection with the teachers’ recruitment scam, the ED had earlier this year detained former West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee and his assistant Arpita Mukherjee after discovering a sizable quantity of cash at the latter’s home. An investigation into the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) recruitment scandal is currently underway for both leaders.

Anubrata Mondal’s Detention in Livestock Smuggling Case

Anubrata Mondal, the head of TMC’s Burbhum district, was also detained in relation to a livestock smuggling case. The Enforcement Department (ED) has also repeatedly called and questioned Abhishek Banerjee, the nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, regarding an alleged coal “scam.”
