BJP leads in Tripura and Nagaland as Assembly poll, set to return in power

Assembly Polls: The BJP is making gains in Tripura and Nagaland as the vote counting for the assembly elections in those three states gets underway, while Conrad Sangma’s NPP, the BJP’s estranged ally, is leading in Meghalaya.

BJP set to return to power in Tripura with a lead on 31 seats

The BJP is predicted to retake power in Tripura by winning 31 of the 60 seats, followed by the CPI(M) with 12, the Tipra Mortha Party with 11, the Congress with 4, and others with 1. The BJP candidate received 3,377 EVM votes, or 50.5% of the total votes, in the Town Bardowali constituency of Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha. INC candidate Asish Kumar Saha came in second with 3,033 votes, or 45.36% of the total votes.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma leading in South Tura with a narrow margin

In the races for the Dimapur-III and Western Angami seats, two of the four women candidates, Hekhani Jakhalu and Salhoutuonuo Kruse of the NDPP, are also in the lead. The Republican Party of India (Athawale) is in the lead in three seats, followed by the LJP (Ram Vilas) in two seats, the NCP in five seats, and independent candidates in two seats. According to the most recent trends available for 55 out of 59 constituencies, the People’s Democratic Front was leading in one seat, two Independent candidates were leading, and The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) was leading in two seats. Finally, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma was leading in the South Tura seat with a margin of just 44 votes over his nearest rival Bernard N Marak of the BJP.
