The High Sugar Content in Bournvita

The debate around the high sugar content in Bournvita has been going on for a while now. However, it gained popularity when nutritionist Revant Himantsingka made a video explaining the harmful effects of consuming too much sugar on 1st April. In the video, the nutritionist pointed out that Bournvita contains a high amount of sugar, which can lead to health issues like obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. He pointed out that a certain ingredient could also cancer. The video went viral on social media, and people started questioning the nutritional value of the product. He stated, "Instead of 'taiyyari jeet ki' it should be 'taiyyari diabetes ki'."

Mondelez India's Response

After facing criticism for the high sugar content in Bournvita, Mondelez India released a statement claiming that their product is safe and provides nutritional value. They also mentioned that the sugar content in their product is within the permissible limits set by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). However, this response did not sit well with the public, who continued to express their concerns about the unhealthy aspects of the product. After receiving the legal notice, the influencer deleted the video which had amassed over 12 million views.

The Backlash Faced by the Nutritionist

The nutritionist who made the viral video faced a lot of backlash on social media. Some people accused of spreading misinformation, while others called out for targeting a particular brand. She was even asked to take down her video criticising Bournvita. This has sparked a discussion on freedom of speech and the power of corporates in controlling the narrative around their products.
