Arjun Ram Meghwal: On Thursday, Kiren Rijiju was removed as minister of law. Arjun Ram Meghwal, who was given the independent charge of Minister of State in the Ministry of Law and Justice in addition to his previous responsibilities, took Rijiju’s place in the government’s cabinet reshuffle. The Ministry of Earth Sciences’ portfolio will now be managed by Kiren Rijiju.
President Droupadi Murmu Reshuffles Ministerial Portfolios
According to a statement released by the Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Droupadi Murmu reassigned portfolios among ministers in the Union Council of Ministers on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The statement read, ‘Shri Kiren Rijiju shall be given the portfolio of the (the) Ministry of Earth Sciences.’ The Shiv Sena responded to Rijiju’s dismissal as the Law Minister in the meantime. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi today took to Twitter to poke fun at the Central government without naming any people, posing the question, “Is it because of the Maharashtra judgement embarrassment? Or the Modani-SEBI investigation?”
Alka Lamba Points to Rijiju’s Remarks on Judge Appointments
Congresswoman Alka Lamba also posted on Twitter in response to the development and stated, “The comments and interference made by @KirenRijiju as the law minister for some time regarding the appointment of judges and the way the courts work had created problems for the Modi government, The government did well by sacrificing its law minister to save its image.”
