Udit Raj: The National Commission for Women claims that the remarks made by Congress leader Udit Raj against the President Droupadi Murmu were "derogatory and disrespectful" in which Udit Raj accused her of being at "the heights of chamchagiri (sycophancy)". Udit Raj's old party, the BJP, has called on him and the Congress to apologise for "insulting the first tribal President of India."

President Murmu recently gave a speech in Gujarat, the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during which she claimed that Gujarat produces 76% of the country's salt; it can be said that all of the country's people eat the salt of Gujarat. Udit Raj has since defended his tweet regarding this statement.

The state does generate a lot of salt, but detractors like Udit Raj objected to the phrase "namak khaate hain," which means "oath of loyalty" in Hindi. Udit Raj challenged her to attempt and survive solely on salt, like many underprivileged communities often have to do.

Her speech had been posted to Twitter by the President's Twitter handle

After the BJP raised its voice, Mr. Raj tweeted once more that people like him, who belong to the Dalit community and have historically been marginalised like the tribal people, have a responsibility to confront President Murmu because "when SC/ST (Scheduled Caste/Tribe) reach to higher position, they ditch their communities & become mum."

Sambit Patra of the BJP referred to Udit Raj's "chamchagiri" remarks as "indecent, sad, and disturbing."

In a tweet, Mr. Patra referred to Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary's reported use of the slur "Rashtrapatni" to refer to the president as "not the first time that the Congress party has used such language," for which Mr. Chowdhary later apologised.
The Congress was asked to apologise by Mr. Patra.

Prior to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Udit Raj, a former BJP member of parliament, changed parties.
