More than 10 million central government employees and pensioners are eagerly waiting for the next Dearness Allowance (DA) hike. The revision, which is expected to be effective from July 1, 2026, has become one of the most discussed topics as inflation-linked calculations indicate another increase in DA.

Although the government has not yet made an official announcement, expectations are growing that the revised DA could be announced in the coming months after the required inflation data is reviewed.

When Will the DA Hike Be Announced?

The Central Government generally revises Dearness Allowance twice every year—once in January and again in July. However, the official notification often comes several weeks or months after the effective date.

For the July 2026 revision, the government is expected to take a final decision after reviewing the latest All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW) data. The revised DA, once approved by the Union Cabinet, will be paid along with arrears from July 1, 2026.

How Much DA Hike Is Expected?

Based on the latest AICPI-IW calculations and current projections, experts believe the Dearness Allowance may increase by 3%, taking the existing DA rate from 60% to 63% of basic pay. Some estimates have also suggested that a 4% increase is possible, although no official confirmation has been issued yet.

How Will the Salary Increase?

If the DA rises from 60% to 63%, employees will receive a higher monthly salary because Dearness Allowance is calculated on the basic pay.

For example:

  • Basic Pay: ₹30,000
  • Current DA (60%): ₹18,000
  • Expected DA (63%): ₹18,900
  • Monthly Increase: ₹900

Similarly, central government pensioners will receive an increase in Dearness Relief (DR), resulting in higher monthly pension payments.

Why Does DA Increase?

Dearness Allowance is revised to offset the impact of inflation on government employees and pensioners. The calculation is linked to the AICPI-IW index published every month. Higher inflation generally results in a higher DA percentage.
