Delhi Gears Up for G20 Summit; Road Closures and Traffic Advisory Announced for Rehearsal practice

G20 Summit: Extensive preparations are underway for the imminent G20 summit in Delhi, involving paintings, lighting installations along the city’s roads, and the deployment of a significant police force to enhance security measures. Consequently, several roads in Delhi are currently closed, and certain areas are subjected to a complete lockdown to facilitate the conference.

The traffic police are conducting rehearsals in anticipation of the delegates’ arrival. An advisory has been issued regarding the G20 preparations, indicating that a full dress rehearsal is scheduled for the end of the week, potentially affecting traffic flow. Delhi Police has advised people to use the metro for travel on Saturdays and Sundays instead of trains.

Which areas to be affected for G20 Summit?

Traffic disruptions are expected on various routes in Delhi during the carcade rehearsal, including Sardar Patel Marg-Panchsheel Marg, C-Hexagon, Zakir Hussain Marg-Subramaniam Bharti Marg, Bhairon Marg, Janpath-Kartavya Path, Barakhamba Road Red Light, Tolstoy Marg, and Vivekananda Marg. These rehearsals will take place at different times, with the first rehearsal scheduled from 8 am to 9 am, the second rehearsal from 9.30 am to 10.30 am, and the third from 12.30 pm to 4 pm on Sunday.

Traffic restrictions will affect several areas in Delhi on Sunday, including Mahatma Gandhi Marg, IP Flyover, Rajghat Chowk, Shanti Van Chowk, Salim Garh Bypass, Bhairon Road, Ring Road, Mathura Road, Shershah Road, C-Hexagon, and Mansingh Square due to the carcade rehearsal for the G20 summit. However, passengers heading to New Delhi and Old Delhi Railway Stations will be permitted to use private vehicles, auto-rickshaws, and taxis.

Partial lockdown in Delhi

For security reasons, certain areas in Delhi will experience a complete lockdown, while partial closures will affect other areas. Completely closed areas include those around Connaught Place, Khan Market, Janpath, India Gate, Jantar Mantar, Sansad Bhavan, Rashtrapati Bhavan, and Chandni Chowk. These closures will be in effect from September 8th to September 10th. In partially closed areas, shops will only be open from 7 am to 7 pm.
