G20 Summit: India is taking on the role of leading the G20 summit this year, which is scheduled to take place in the capital city of Delhi from September 9th to 10th. In preparation for this event, significant construction efforts have been undertaken in the city, including the enhancement of roads. However, amidst the preparation, news emerged that ‘Shivling-shaped’ fountains have been installed. This led rise to the political acusstation from the govt. Though, in a conversation with Aaj Tak, Delhi LG VK Saxena has now spoken up on the controversial issue.

The installation of Shivling-shaped fountains at Dhaula Kuan in the national capital, as part of the ongoing beautification efforts in Delhi, had stirred up controversy. The BJP strongly criticized the AAP government in the national capital, accusing them of disrespecting the ‘Shivling’ by using it for decorative purposes.

What did LG VK Saxena say?

Speaking on the beautification, LG VK Saxena said, “Delhi needed someone to take care of it. He said that a lot of hard work has been done in the work that has been done in two months. Fountains have been installed in this, roads have been made, and 15,000 tonnes of garbage has been removed in these two months at many other places. All the agencies in Delhi have been beautified. Work was going on continuously for 2 months.”

According to LG VK Saxena, it has been demonstrated that with determination, anything can be achieved. He further said, “When visiting the capital of any nation, one often witnesses its culture and heritage. Our goal was to display our heritage, vibrancy, and artistic expression. This is why we have erected sculptures and fountains, with the contribution of numerous artists.”

Simultaneously, addressing the statues of the lion and horse, LG Saxena highlighted that the lion represents the strength of the nation, symbolising power, while the horse symbolizes swiftness. He said “Each statue has been thoughtfully placed, and the fountains have been strategically positioned to offer a calming and soothing effect through the presence of water. Yakshini, representing prosperity, has been depicted through her idols placed along the streets. This serves as a splendid chance to showcase the advancement and resilience of our nation. It’s a significant opportunity that requires collective participation from everyone.”

AAP accuses BJP for insulting ‘Shivling’

Earlier, AAP MP Sanjay Singh alleged that Delhi Lieutenant Governor (L-G) VK Saxena showed disrespect towards the Shivlings. Furthermore, in a tweet, he called for an apology from the BJP and emphasized that corrective measures should be undertaken against the Delhi LG.

He wrote, “Shivling was insulted under the leadership of Modi ji and shameless BJP people are praising Modi. The LG of Delhi is looting accolades by disrespecting Shivling. BJP should apologize to the country, take action on LG.”
