Independence Day 2023: Delhi Police has put in place strict security measures in preparation for the Independence Day celebrations in the nation's capital. The Red Fort has been off-limits to the public since July 26, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will raise the flag and address the nation there. For the purpose of securing and sanitising the region, the Special Protection Group (SPG) has assumed control of the property.

Comprehensive Citywide Security Evaluation

Between July 27 and July 29, Delhi Police also carried out a security assessment of the entire city, identifying 100 weak points. The Deputy Commissioner of Police, HQ &TYR, Special cell has given the local police stations instructions to address the security issues discovered at a number of hotels, guest houses, crowded marketplaces, taxi stops, parking lots, cyber cafes, PG lodgings, cinema halls, malls and other locations. throughout accordance with Section 144 of the CrPC, the Delhi Police has issued prohibition orders throughout the Red Fort and its environs, including Rajghat and ITO.

Stringent Measures Implemented Ahead of Independence Day

“In view of Independence Day celebrations, Section 144 of CrPC (Code of Criminal Procedure) has been invoked in areas near Rajghat, ITO, Red Fort etc. No gathering of any kind is permitted in these areas,” Delhi Police tweeted. An experienced crew of kite flyers is assisting in the efforts to sensitise local communities about the ban on flying kites close to the Red Fort. For the Independence Day celebrations, a multi-layered security cover has been planned, according to Delhi Police. The National Security Guard (NSG), Special Protection Group (SPG), Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and Delhi Police will all work together to oversee security. The Delhi Police will be in control of the remaining area, which will be encircled by paramilitary personnel for about 200 metres.

Cutting-Edge Security Measures Enforced at Red Fort for Independence Day

The Red Fort's gates are being guarded by computerised facial recognition technology, which is being used by Delhi Police. Using a temporary control centre, suspicious activities will be watched over and coordination between security officers will be made easier. Binocular-wielding spotters will be stationed at almost 300 structures in the Red Fort region. They will report any unusual movements to the authorities. Additionally, the Delhi Police has begun to increase patrols and anti-sabotage inspections. From August 11 to August 17, the Border Security Force (BSF) launched Operation Alert outside the country's capital along the international border between India and Pakistan.The objective of this operation is to prevent smuggling and infiltration.The BSF wants to increase camel and foot patrols, fortify security checkpoints, and enhance overall area monitoring.
