DG (Prisons) Sandeep Goel transferred from Tihar after conman’s Rs 10 cr allegations

Days after jailed conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar allegedly demanded Rs 10 crore in exchange for security inside the prison, Director General (prisons) Sandeep Goel was transferred from Tihar Jail.

Goel, an AGMUT cadre officer from the 1989 batch, was transferred from Tihar Jail and instructed to report to PHQ for further instructions, per a formal order issued on Friday.

The new DG (Prisons) is Sanjay Beniwal, an IPS officer from the 1989 batch, according to the order.

Chandrashekhar claimed in a letter to the lt governor of Delhi that Satyendar Jain, the head of the AAP, “extorted” Rs 10 crore from him in 2019 to guarantee his safety in prison.

The startling allegations against the AAP leader were made in a letter that Chandrashekhar, who is currently being held in Mandoli jail in connection with a case involving the money laundering of Rs 200 crore, filed to the L-G on October 8 through his attorney Ashok K Singh.

According to the letter, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) received more than Rs 50 crore with the understanding that they would offer Chandrashekhar a key position in the South Zone of the party and support his nomination to the Rajya Sabha.

Chandrashekhar also claimed that Jain paid him a visit while he was being held in Tihar jail as a result of his detention in 2017 for the “two leaf sign corruption case.”
