ECI: Election Commission Of India Declares Actor Pankaj Tripathi As its National Icon

ECI: Actor Pankaj Tripathi, who has won national awards, has been appointed the Election Commission of India’s National Icon (ECI).

Tripathi has had an 18-year career in the field and is well-known throughout India. He is renowned for his outstanding performances in a variety of films, including “Fukrey,” “Masaan,” “Bareilly Ki Barfi,” “Stree,” “Ludo,” and “Mimi.” His acting in online series including “Mirzapur,” “Sacred Games,” and “Criminal Justice,” among others, helped him gain recognition.

With the 2004 film “Run,” starring Abhishek Bachchan and Bhumika Chawla, Tripathi made his Bollywood debut.

Prasar Bharati reports that the ECI made the announcement on Monday. The actor revealed in a 20-second video that, following a few formalities, he will officially assume the duties of the National Icon.

Happy with ECI’s choice, the actor tweeted his assurance that he will gratefully carry out his responsibilities.


At the ‘Voter Junction’ programme inauguration, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar followed Tripathi, who was wearing a fitted blue suit.

The 46-year-old was previously a state icon for Bihar.

Additionally, the ECI collaborated with All India Radio to launch the radio programme “Matdata Junction” in order to increase voter awareness.

The ECI also disclosed the schedule for by-elections in six states on the eve of the event. On November 3, elections will be conducted to fill the seven open assembly seats.

Mokama and Gopalganj in Bihar, Andheri (East) in Maharashtra, Adampur in Haryana, Munugode in Telangana, Gola Gorakhnath in Uttar Pradesh, and Dhamnagar in Odisha will all hold byelections. On Friday, the notification will be released (October 7).

According to the Election Commission, there are a sufficient number of EVM and VVPAT machines available, and every precaution has been taken to ensure that the polls are conducted efficiently with the aid of these devices.
The election commission announced in a statement that the vote tallying would occur on November 6.
