EPFO to launch online facility for higher pension

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) will soon launch an online facility for subscribers who were engaged before September 1, 2014, continued to be employed, but were unable to exercise the joint option, to choose a greater pension. “…online facility for filing joint option is coming soon,” the EPFO said on its website on Friday.

This comes after the retirement fund organization’s February 20 circular outlining the steps for such employees to choose a greater pension under the Employees’ Pension Plan. It had been indicated that a joint option filing facility will be offered, and that a URL would be provided shortly.

Subscribers will need to submit a form together with proof of the employer’s contribution to the provident fund for any wages that are greater than the and after that monthly salary caps of $5,000 and $6,500 as well as proof of any joint options that have been approved by the employer.

The Supreme Court’s ruling from November 2022 gave eligible subscribers a four-month window to choose the higher pension under the EPS, and the EPFO has little over ten days, or March 3, to comply. There is a chance that the EPFO will extend the deadline for submitting submissions due to worries about how employers and employees will complete the necessary filings in the limited time.
