Everything you need to know about Kerala’s “Pink Protection” project

The Kerala Police Department has started a new project named “Pink Protection” to protect women in public, private, and digital settings. Ten automobiles, 40 two-wheelers, including Bullet bikes, and 20 bicycles were assigned for the project, which was officially launched by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The project “Pink Protection” attempts to prevent dowry-related concerns, cyberbullying, and public humiliation. One of the ten components of the project is the activation of the current Pink Police Patrol system.

How will police work under Pink Protection Project?

State Police Chief Anil Kant said the primary objective of the project was to make women feel secure. Regular patrols will be taken out by the Pink patrol squads that will have wireless communication sets to relay information to the Pink control rooms that have been set up in all districts. Route maps will also be prepared for the purpose.

What are other teams under this project?

One of the teams under the project is the “Pink Shadow Patrol” team, which will be deployed to detect the presence of anti-socials in crowded areas to take action. Another team called “Pink Romeo”, which is a bullet patrol team of women police officers has also been launched under the project.

Specialised training to quickly resolve complaints

Police officers will receive specialised training in order to quickly resolve complaints. With the help of voluntary organisations, the existing counselling facility in police women’s cells will be strengthened.

Anju, the civil police officer elaborated on the project and said, “This is another version of Janamaithri beat. We will go to each area and establish a friendly relationship with people to make them feel free to share their issues if they have. We will plan to conduct regular patrolling and we will get trying for that.”

According to a police employee assigned to the Pink Janamaithri beat, they want to keep tabs on domestic violence by maintaining frequent contact with women inside specified police station boundaries.
