Fire in 20-storey residential building in Mumbai, 2 dies

A massive fire broke out in a 20-storey residential building in Mumbai today morning, in which two people have been burnt to death, while 15 people have been injured. Officials said that the condition of three people is said to be critical, while the condition of the other 12 injured is stable.

A fire broke out at around 7 am on the 18th floor of Kamala Building opposite Gandhi Hospital at Gowalia Tank in central Mumbai’s Tardeo area. As soon as the information was received, fire brigade personnel and police reached the spot.

All the injured have been taken to the nearby Bhatia Hospital. Of them, 12 have been admitted to the general ward as their condition is stable, while three have been admitted to the ICU as their condition is critical. A doctor of Bhatia Hospital told that two people have died due to burns in this accident.

An official of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said that it has been marked as a level-3 fire. According to the official, 13 fire tenders, seven water jetties and others are involved in the operation to douse the fire.

Expressing grief over the accident, Maharashtra BJP President and MLA Mangal Prabhat Lodha said that it is an unfortunate incident.
