FM Sitharaman to visit US next week for key meeting

Beginning on Monday, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) will hold important meetings in the US, the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to participate, the finance ministry announced on Saturday.

According to a statement from the ministry, she will engage with investors, economists, and think tanks; take part in bilateral engagements, including a meeting with US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen; and talk about important topics like strengthening multilateral development banks, digital public infrastructure, and cryptocurrency assets.

She will travel there on business from April 10 to April 16 with representatives from her ministry and the Reserve Bank of India. The second G20 FMCBG meeting will be held on April 12–13, and Sitharaman and central bank governor Shaktikanta Das will co-chair it, according to the announcement.

The World Bank Development Committee and IMF Committee plenaries, other G20-related side events, the Second G20 FMCBG meeting under India’s presidency, bilateral engagements with nations and international organisations, roundtable discussions with top business executives and investors, and engagement with the Indian diaspora are among the minister’s major engagements, according to the statement.

350 delegates from G20 states, 13 invitee countries, and numerous international and regional organisations are expected to attend the FMCBG meeting. The meeting will assess the status of the goals set forth in India’s G20 Finance Track agenda, according to the ministry.
