The Nagaland Legislative Assembly started the session with the country’s national anthem for the first time in 58 years of state formation. This history was created about a week ago, when the seventh session of the 13th assembly was started with the national anthem before Governor RN Ravi’s address.
The state of Nagaland came into existence on 1 December 1963. The elected government came into existence after the first assembly elections in January 1964 and the first assembly was formed on 11 February 1964. Despite this, the tune of ‘Jana Gana Mana’ was never echoed in the state assembly.
National Anthem played in Nagaland Assembly for the first time in nearly 6 decades
The national anthem was played inside the Nagaland Legislative Assembly for the first time this February, nearly 60 years after Nagaland gained statehood. The move is historic for a state which has been plagued by separatist violence for decades.
