The Election Commission of India (ECI) has provided another chance for voters who were left out of the draft electoral rolls after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) to get on the voters’ list in Form 6. Election Commission India has provided clarification on 3rd November 2026 on the same to overcome the fears of the voters who have been on the voter list previously but are not on the list anymore. The Commission has further clarified that people whose names are not in the draft electoral rolls can submit Form 6 to get them included in the final electoral list, irrespective of the fact that they were registered as voters earlier. The election body also said these applicants will not be booked under any criminal charges for earlier registration.
Why Did The Election Commission Issue The Form 6 Clarification?
According to the ECI, some of those who had registered earlier on were unwilling to fill up Form 6, as the application form contains a declaration that they are applying to be included in the electoral roll for the first time. These voters argued that by filling out the form now, despite having already voted, they risked being charged for a false declaration under Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.To deal with this, the Commission explained that while existing registration would not lead to the new application being considered as ‘false’, it would be necessary that the applicant was not registered in any Parliamentary or Assembly constituency and that the declarations were in accordance with the law.
