From April 1, people above 45 to receive vaccine doses

Centre has now revised the restrictions that were imposed for people wanting to get vaccinated against the novel coronavirus. As per the revised guidelines, anyone who is 45 or above irrespective of comorbidities can receive the vaccine from April 1. The development comes amid the recent covid surge that has been witnessed in approximately 12 states of the country.

“I appeal to every citizen who is 45 or above to register for vaccination,” Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said, announcing the expansion of the drive that started in January.

“This decision has been taken by cabinet on the basis of the advice of the coronavirus Task Force and experts,” said Mr Javadekar.

Currently, India is conducting its second phase of the nationwide covid-19 vaccination drive under which people above 60 and those 45 and above with comorbidities are being inoculated.

According to the minister, 4.85 crore people have received at least one dose of the Covid vaccine and 80 lakh have received the second dose.

Earlier, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has appealed to the Centre to expand the vaccination drive amid the surge in daily covid cases.
