The season of festivities has arrived beginning the nine-day Navratri celebrations. Devotees across the country are gearing for the auspicious occasion and markets are stocked up with Pooja samagri. This year the festival starts from October 17 and will continue till 25.
The Navratri is celebrated to worship nine avatars of Goddess Durga or Shakti. This Navratri is also known as Shardiya Navratri as it falls during the Sharad or autumn season.
The first day of the Navrtari is known as Pratipadaand the first avatar of Navdurga -- Goddess Shailpuri -- is worshipped. Every day of Navratri holds a different significance and is known by different names across the country.
Celebrations for Durga Puja start on the sixth day of Navratri while nine nights mark Rama's victory over Ravana which is a symbol of good triumphing over evil.
Around this time, Ramlila is organised at various places across the country which ends with Rama killing Ravana. People gather in large numbers to witness the story of lord Rama. However, due to the pandemic, the celebrations are different this year but this is also the time when we need to believe in everything these festivals stand for.
